GAME OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS

Australian Game of the Year 2008

  Archaeology - The Card Game

Archaeology: the Card Game immerses you in the role of a collector of ancient artefacts. You dig up pieces of objects and trade them at the marketplace in order to assemble a complete artifact to sell to the museum. Players must balance the risk of sandstorms and thieves against the bonus payoff for finding all the pieces to a particular artifact. Piecing together the bits of a broken cup, or scraps of parchment, increases their value when you sell the object to a museum. The game is played entirely with cards, and has a mix of luck and tactics that will entertain the whole family: you will almost be able to smell the musty mummies!

PRICE: $20

International Game of the Year 2008

10 Days in Asia

10 Days in Asia is an easy to learn, fun and educational race game. The goal is to be the first person to complete a 10 day journey in Asia. You receive a random deal of 10 cards describing countries and transportation methods that must then be rearranged to make a connected trip. The trick is that you must discard and draw new cards into your existing positions to make the 10 day trip.

PRICE: $50

Children's Game of the Year 2008

Quoridor Kid

Players attempt to be the first to move their mouse to the other side of a 7x7 grid, whilst also spending turns building a maze on the grid to hinder their opponent (and help themself). It can be played by either 2 or 4 players. The components are great, and the mouse/maze theme provides a fun game for all ages (5 and up) with the quick play time allowing the development of strategy and counter-strategies.

PRICE: $46

The Games and Puzzles below have been nominated for Australian Game Awards.

ZOOLORETTO
(A.G.A. GAME OF THE YEAR)

Each player uses small, large, wild and exotic animals and their young to try to attract as many visitors as possible to their zoo. But be careful - the zoo must be carefully planned. Before you know it, you have too many animals and no more room for them. That brings minus points! Luckily, your zoo can expand. A zoo of a family game in which less is sometimes more...

PRICE: $80

AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL
(A.G.A. PUZZLE OF THE YEAR)

The challenge with this game is to put all 6 transparent puzzle pieces on the game board so that the aeroplanes are in the right location and flying in the right direction. Includes pull out draw containing challenge book with 48 different challenges ranging from easy to extremely difficult. Ages 8 and up.

PRICE: $28

The games people play… can be so good for kids
As teachers, you know that play is important to a healthy society and it is getting left behind in today's world. You probably realise that games are not just fun - they're a recognized teaching tool and (according to research for the Chicago Toy & Games Fair), can raise a child's IQ by up to 16 points!
